Grow High-Cost Veggies

In most regions there’s still time to add vegetables to the garden or a container. Consider growing the ones you especially like but cringe when you look at the grocery store prices. Inflation and weather problems continue to push prices for fresh produce even higher.

Manage your produce budget and eat happier by planting the pricey vegetables you like best.

Heirloom tomatoes

Peppers, lettuce and tomatoes are easy to grow with the right garden conditions or the appropriately sized containers. Are there other high-cost vegetables you’d like to grow? Check your local independent nursery for assistance.

And if it’s tree fruit you would like to have more of, set a reminder in your phone to plant dormant fruit trees when it’s the season. For USDA Zones 9 & 10 that’s December to February.

Organic strawberries command a premium price now in the stores, so another reminder to plant them in winter or early spring.
