Lettuce takes a starring role this week. The Rosaine and Alkindus lettuces are ready to harvest. They glow in the late winter light and respond to the longer days and recent rains.

Lettuce seedlings will be planted later today before another series of rainstorms this week. Mesclun lettuce and baby leaf spinach still produce well from an early fall planting.

Garden gifts for my sister.

Waning days for the broccoli side shoots.

A late winter stir-fry of garden veggies.

There’s scads of dill and this will be dried for later uses.

Moving on to citrus, at least 20% of the Washington navel orange crop remains and we’re still able to share with family and friends. Plus there’s fresh squeezed orange juice most mornings.

A bountiful crop of kumquats from my son’s yard in Los Angeles cooked down to a perfect consistency. The small jars store in the freezer for later use.

A sure sign that spring is around the corner as I picked the first bouquets of sweet peas.
