Blue Podded Peas

image

I’ve just encountered blue podded peas which will be one of my Novelty Crops for next year’s winter garden.

They’re available from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds as dwarf bush plants and 5-6 foot vines. The version pictured above is Desiree Dwarf Blauwschokkers Garden Pea with this description:

Stunning violet-blue pods are produced on lovely little bush plants that do not require staking. The delicious peas are perfect for soups and stews, or pick small and these can be used as a snow pea. A great addition from Holland.

Read the reviews for more details. Don’t they look like fun?  I’m always looking for purple or magenta veggies–all those anthocyanins and great color in the garden.
