It was 30 degrees this morning at 6:30 am in my garden. We’re only two blocks from the ocean but at the bottom of a hill. The garden gathers in the cold overnight. It rarely drops below 40 degrees here at the coast.

I covered the lettuce and greens bed with a sheet since I needed about 15 cups of salad greens for a party at work today. Root crops, snow peas and broccoli all fared well as expected. Tangerine and lime trees stood vigil overnight draped in sheets and towels.

Similar cold temperatures expected tonight so I’ll be heading out shortly to water the raised beds and cover the lettuce and citrus.
