If you’ve been following my blog you know I like to mix flowers in with my vegetables for many reasons. Flowers attract beneficial insects which help with pest control. Read an excellent article from Renee’s Garden here.

They finish the composition, a little ruffle of sorts at the edge of the bed.

I “design” my vegetable garden so the flowers show best against a solid green surface. Here the Iceland poppies squeeze in between radicchio and purple larkspur. I’ve let volunteer orange wind poppies meander in the garlic and quinoa rows.

There’s fragrance to consider…

and then just pure drama.
