Tomatoes (and zinnias–see previous post) remain the vegetable garden stars this week. All six tomato plants are producing, albeit with yields down because of the odd weather. Cherokee Purple, Green Zebra and Indigo Rose are displayed above.
The long-awaited Indigo Rose tomatoes. They deserve their own blog post.
Yesterday’s harvest of Black Cherry Tomatoes, less the ones I ate while picking. They are bigger than most cherry tomatoes, oblong with a rich flavor characteristic of black tomatoes. They’ve languished in a not large enough pot in a very hot location. I’ll save seeds of this heirloom for next year.
This is yesterday’s picking of the tri-color pole beans. The purple beans are just starting. The purple leaves layer in with the green, appearing as velvet from a distance. Perhaps I’ll plant all Purple Peacock next year.
A small “bouquet” of summer lettuce.
Green, white, red peppers and fresh herbs join with the ubiquitous zucchini for a weekend side with pork tenderloin.
Some of the potted herbs used in the vegetable side above have fared better in a new location with dappled sun.
Tomorrow night I think we’ll have the first ear of corn for dinner. Life is good.
