AMERICA’S OLDEST SEED HOUSE FACES CLOSURE

Read about Landreth Seed Company in a post on L.A. at Home. Landreth Seed was established in 1784 and currently sells seed to Old Sturbridge Village, Colonial Williamsburg, Monticello, Mount Vernon, Old Salem Museum and Gardens, The Henry Ford Museum and other historical museums; and of course, gardeners around the country.

Even in you don’t want to purchase seeds, you can support them by ordering their 2012 catalog for $5 (to be delivered in December). The catalog features hand-drawn illustrations, articles from the 1800’s and color photographs. This fund-raising venture is improving their financial picture according to Landreth's Facebook page.

The Huffington Post suggests the gorgeous seed catalog is a $5 investment in the seed company. The Post traces their recent history including the purchase by a former venture capitalist who is an avid gardener.

Consider a $5 investment.
