This evening I traveled to San Diego Botanic Garden where Carol Bornstein, one of the authors shared her vision for California gardens.
For those not ready to give up the traditional lawn, she suggested reducing your lawn size and adding edibles. A dull, squarish turf backyard becomes more interesting and productive with a sculpted border that features bold artichokes, fruit trees and herbs.
Bornstein walked the audience through the chapters of her book with images that feature both California natives and Mediterranean plants. She and her co-authors are speaking frequently around northern and southern California. For a list of events check here;also note Tree of Life Nursery, San Juan Capistrano (May 14); San Diego, California Native Plant Society (May 16).
